Teaching Portfolio
Graduate Level
As a graduate level educator, my teaching philosophy is grounded in the principles of the action-oriented approach to education. I emphasize action competence over traditional knowledge transfer by co-creating the learning environment and learning tasks with my students. Students set their own goals and apply general concepts to real-world scenarios, encouraging experiential learning and learner agency. Courses cover corpus linguistics, linguistic data analysis with the programming languages R and Python, and foreign language didactics. The goal is to equip students for success in their respective fields through a practical, hands-on education.
Undergraduate level
At the undergraduate level, my teaching philosophy focuses on a contextual, communicative, and student-centered approach to language instruction. My priorities include promoting meaningful language use, experiential learning, and autonomy. Within this framework, I effectively use digital media for teaching, implement blended learning strategies, and create customized teaching and learning materials to enhance the learning experience. While I recognize the importance of providing explicit instruction and metalinguistic knowledge, they must be integrated into a communicative context to support learning. My ultimate goal is to facilitate implicit language learning in the context of the foreign language classroom. In more subject-oriented courses, such as linguistics and area studies, my goal is to help students improve their analytical skills and discover the power of linguistic and intercultural-studies concepts for understanding themselves and others.
Advanced Teacher Training
Advanced teacher training has had a profound impact on my professional trajectory as an educator. These courses have provided invaluable opportunities to refine my teaching methodologies, incorporate contemporary technologies, and stay current with pedagogical developments.
